Vernaccia Vigna Santa Margherita is the wine we hold most dear at Panizzi. Santa Margherita is Panizzi’s mother vineyard in every sense of the word.
This is the vineyard from which the first Vernaccia Panizzi Riserva was born in 1991. It is the vineyard to which Panizzi dedicates its wine, the Vigna Santa Margherita cru, first vintage 2003. We opened this very first bottle of Vernaccia Vigna Santa Margherita with the Intravino team and this is what they wrote about it:
Vernaccia di San Gimignano Vigna Santa Margherita 2003: First vintage from a single vineyard, Santa Margherita, i.e., the winery’s historic vineyard core. Although half the wine rests in second-passage barrels and half in steel, the woody note is identifiable. Despite the hot and difficult vintage, for the first time, on olfactory analysis, it is the floral part that prevails over the fruity one, giving grace and lightness: helichrysum flowers, lime blossom, lemon and mint tea. In the mouth it is multifaceted: full, juicy, fragrant characterized by acid tension and light barrel aromas, moderate alcohol warmth for the vintage. 90, a miracle in 2003.
The winemaking process for this wine has remained unchanged since its first vintage. 100% Vernaccia from the Vigna Santa Margherita vineyard. Very soft pressing of the grapes. 50% is fermented in stainless steel and 50% in second-passage French barriques for 6-8 months. Afterwards, the wine is blended and bottled, followed by a minimum bottle aging of 12 months.
The current vintage is the outstanding 2018 vintage. To drink or store for 10+ years. Order your bottle online in the shop section of our website.
