San Gimignano Pinot Noir DOC

The challenge of San Gimignano

Single Vineyard

There are some interesting areas in Italy where Pinot Noir produces exciting wines. We believe that San Gimignano is one of them and we are ready to prove it. Panizzi is the first and (so far) only producer of Pinot Noir in San Gimignano Doc and therefore it has always been a real challenge for us. However, the grape variety has settled perfectly in the La Ventola vineyard and in just a few years pinot noir has translated into an iconic wine of the estate. The first pinot noir wine produced in San Gimignano, it has been able to translate the terroir in a highly original way that has been appreciated by public and critics alike. The natural elegance of the grape variety finds in this land a mineral declination due to the tufaceous soils, which in its own way emphasizes the fruity fragrance, giving rise to a complex, yet cheerful and convivial sip.

VINE

pinot noir, manual harvest in late August

Vinification/refining

the fruit of long research and careful experimentation, with no yardstick for comparison, as pioneers of pinot noir in San Gimignano, we arrived at a protocol that involves cold pre-fermentation maceration and alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins for 10 days. Malolactic in steel and maturation in barriques for 10 months, followed by 6 months of bottle aging.

Sensory notes

Garnet red with ruby undertones. Subtle, intense nose of red fruit, hints of underbrush and fresh balsamic notes reminiscent of elderberry and juniper. The sip is velvety and savory, silky tannins thicken the flavor texture resulting in great balance. The aromatic persistence brings back pleasant memories of cherry, raspberry and strawberry to the nose
