Folgóre San Gimignano Rosso DOC

An austere rarity

Single vineyard

A child of the best vintages, it owes its rarity to the limited production of a single one-hectare vineyard planted in the 1990s. Here the sangiovese, cabernet and merlot vines are trained with an uncommon system: the Lira, characterized by a double leaf wall, which requires a lot of care to maintain, but allows an important phenolic concentration of the grapes. Folgòre is a unique wine, powerful, rare and with great aging potential. The name is a dedication to Folgòre, a 14th-century poet born in San Gimignano.

VItigno

sangiovese 60%, merlot 20%, cabernet 20% from a single vineyard. The three varieties are harvested together in early October.

Vinification/refining

Maceration and alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins for 20 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in steel and maturation in new barriques for 18 months and bottle aging for at least 12 months.

Sensory notes

Bright red with shades that turn from ruby to purplish. The bouquet is rich, broad in nuance and elegant, ranging from small berries to black pepper, vanilla, licorice and roasted coffee. The palate is dense, firm and compact, with noticeable but round tannins and a long fruity finish.
